Hi guys, what do you recommend to buy camping gear and clothing? I tend to buy online to not pay sales tax. So far I've used amazon.com and backcountry.com, should I check other sites?

for an offline store, i hit Redwood Trading Post in Redwood City. they carry a lot of stuff including some surplus stock. i bought my tent from a good site, but forgot what they were called.

Hey what is the name of... the gas "light" that uses a standard propane canister? I am not sure how to search for that.

Tomorrow I think I will pay a visit to the "Trading Post"

you mean a lantern? there are quite a few out there. they are definitely brighter than those operated by white gas. i am probably going to upgrade to propane before wheeling season 2010.

Yes lantern. Which one would you recommend, I've seen a few online and prices go between 20 to 70 bucks.

this all depends on you. There are battery powered ones (D-cells), some that use white gas, some that use regular unleaded and white gas, and propane.

If you carry gas the dual fuel option might make sense for you.

Well I lean towards the propane ones, so I can use the propane canisters I would also use for the stove etc

I just switched to LED from propane....it is nice to have a mode that doesn't attract bugs :-).
New lantern

I have not taken the propane one out of my camping gear yet though as they are a little brighter.

Cabelas !!!! HANDS down !!! I love this place.. They sell just about everything that I have looked for. Great customer service.. One of the most amazing things about them is when you call to order or for any other reason, a live person actually answers the phone and helps you out.. They always have great deal in their "bargain cave".. I can honestly say that I have been 100% satisfied with everything that I have purchased from them.

I have only purchased from them online so its right up there with your no sales tax policy, Check them out online, they have a great site. THey also have huge stores like bass pro shops, I have never been to one but I would love to go. The closest one is in Reno. They are not allowed in Cali because they promote hunting (just kidding) ...
